Tributes Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the duo.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt able to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can finally express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the production, adding that he doesn't recollect "any day without mirth".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to block the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive placed a security hold on the investigation to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a official listing listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
After the deaths, public personalities offered divergent reactions.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making provocative remarks that were met with immediate backlash by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the critics recently. Speaking on his program, Rogan labeled the remarks as "shocking" and implied they demonstrated a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an aide ought to have intervened when the choice to weigh in on the death was made.
