Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with performances like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
