Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
