A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at loved ones. I hope you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy announcements came out during the holidays, and if you overlooked any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)

Truly the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
